Not erotic but maybe kind of romantic if you look at it right. Just felt the mood to do a realistic "normal" type image.

DE6 Now Has a Blurb

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/09/de6-now-has-a-blurb/)
I've got the official blurb for Dark Elves VI: Awakening now:

As the first girl child born to the dark elves, Eryhaen is rhaejena—princess—and desired by all of the men around her. Born with magical gifts that challenge even the most experienced sorcerers among her people, she has the awe of her people and the devotion of her three best friends and lovers. Brevin, Lanthan and Tykir have been at her side their whole lives and each of the three young men would do anything for her and each other.

But Eryhaen needs more than untutored if eager lovers. She is out of control, and she knows it. Her magic is raw and wild, and she is not the only one who’s started to see her as a danger.

She needs help.

The only possibility is Radin, a legendary sorcerer, returned from the dead but magically unconscious for a quarter of a century. Dreams and undeniable instincts tell her that he’s the solution to her problems, if she can only wake him up.

Once she does, what then? He may be the answer to her problems, but is the legendary lover the man for her? Or is he meant for someone else?

EXCERPT - Just For You

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/09/excerpt-just-for-you/)
Just For YouDue to be released October 13 from Loose Id

Available soon from Loose Id

This story was one of those organic ones. I won't say it was super-easy, because it wasn't, but it was born out of a scene that popped into my head one day. The scene, in fact, that is depicted below.

It's one of my "gay for you" stories, I'll confess. What can I say? I like the dynamic.

BLURB (subject to change):

Justin falls for Kevin the instant they pass each other on a sidewalk. Only, Kevin’s not gay. The higher ups at Kevin’s company are gay, however, and Kevin’s accidental meeting with Justin gives him an idea how to get around his controlling female supervisor. If he can gain access to the top men at an exclusive gay club, he might be able to finally share his ideas.

Justin instantly agrees to be his date, despite the obvious heartbreak that’s headed his way for going out with a straight man. At the club, Kevin gets a chance to meet the company owner, Victor Chen, and the man seems interested… both in his ideas and his date.

Kevin can’t deny his attraction to Justin, but he’s not gay. Right? He should step aside and let Justin have a chance to date Victor, who’s gorgeous, rich, and shares Justin’s interest in fashion. Despite his internal struggles, he really wants to explore their growing bond. Justin is certainly game, but a part of him knows they can’t have a future together. Is there more to their instant attraction than either suspect?

*************************

Mostly edited excerpt, ©2009 Jet Mykles, all rights reserved

“… and then I…” Justin stopped dead in his tracks in the middle of the sidewalk, forcing two chatting women to split up to go around him. Ignoring their mild glares as they passed, he stared blindly over the plastic lid of his coffee cup, wondering if he’d just seen what he thought he’d seen.

Ahead, Frank kept walking a few steps before realizing he was alone. He spun, the spikes of his highlighted hair refusing to move in the mild breeze that kept the sunny street somewhat cool. “Hey?”

Justin heard him but couldn’t be bothered acknowledge the words. He snapped around, eagerly searching for… Oh yes! The hind view of the vision of loveliness that had just passed by him. Slightly rumpled charcoal slacks loosely framed a fine little derriere and an equally rumpled ice gray button-down draped slim shoulders. Waved hair the color of good French Roast almost brushed said shoulders.

“Justin, what are you…?”

Barely hearing his friend, Justin raced back down the sidewalk, nearly spilling his coffee in his rush to catch up to a wet dream come to life. He nearly ran over a guy on roller blades and just avoided getting wrapped up in a micro dog’s leash, but he finally made it to the vison’s side. He reached out to wrap a hand around an arm. Nice, he thought, feeling the biceps. Slim, but firm.

Said vision halted and twisted a graceful neck over and up to face Justin.

Oh. My. God! Innocently seductive brown eyes kind of focused on Justin from beneath sinfully full black lashes. Confused eyes that blinked up at him, positively enchanting. Elegant and sleek, just like the rest of him, Latino somewhere in his lineage, judging by facial features and gold skin tone. There was an almost innocence in that face even though he was had to be in his mid-twenties, at least. Justin wanted to devour the generous lips that parted in surprise.

“I’ve just fallen in love with you,” Justin declared, cradling his coffee cup to his chest as he kept hold on the vision’s arm. “What is your name, and please tell me you’re gay?”

EXCERPT - Dark Elves VI: Awakening

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/09/excerpt-dark-elves-vi-awakening/)
Dark Elves VI: AwakeningDue out September 15, 2009 from Loose Id

Pairing: m/f; m/m; m/m/f; f/f; m/m/m/f

Available soon from Loose Id

So here it is, the last book of the main arc started in Dark Elves I: Taken. The children conceived in the first three books are now grown and ready to cause trouble. As a quick primer, Brevin is Salin and Diana's son, Lanthan is Krael and Suza's son, Tykir is Hyle and Gala's son, and Eryhaen is Savous and Irin's daughter. Not to mention there's this guy... from book three... who showed up in book five... yeah, we're dealing with him too.

BLURB (subject to change):

[coming soon because we're still working on it]

****************************

Brevin’s left arm flew up, the long, slim dagger in reverse grip along his forearm to deflect Lanthan’s blade. As Lanthan began to twist away, Brevin brought up a fist, aiming for his gut. Lanthan was better than that, having spun into Brevin, catching him off guard enough so that when the smaller man’s ass rammed into his hips, he stumbled enough for Lanthan to grip his left arm and flip him head over heels. He ended flat on his back in the sand, stunned for those few precious seconds it took for Lanthan to drop to his knees and straddle Brevin’s chest, his blade at Brevin’s throat.

Lanthan’s grin was barely sane underneath the long fall of fringe that spilled over the wide band tied about his skull. “Got ya.”

Brevin snarled, fingers digging into the sand. But Lanthan’s knees pinned Brevin’s arms to the ground.

“Only because it’s left-handed.”

“No excuse,” said a deep voice overhead. “A skilled warrior fights equally well with both hands.”

Brevin closed his eyes. Lanthan’s father, Krael, was a cruel taskmaster, even in training. Especially in training. He wouldn’t accept any less than Brevin’s or Lanthan’s best even if they had just come back from battle. He wouldn’t let them have fun and just blow off steam as Brevin had hoped to do. Can’t he pay attention to the others? There were plenty of other trainees in the practice grounds for Krael to torture.

Lanthan laughed, easing up on Brevin’s throat. “Try again?”

Brevin had wondered if it was a good idea to spar so soon after their return, but after they’d left Tykir with the healers, he and Lanthan had been much too keyed up to stay in the dining hall or go to the pools. Tykir would be all right, but neither of them had truly believed it until the healer had said it himself.

“Yes.” Brevin snatched his right arm up from under Lanthan’s left knee and swung it in a roundhouse toward his friend’s head. As he’d fully expected, Lanthan shied right and back so the punch missed. Weapons dropped in the sand, they tussled, the two of them grappling until Brevin’s greater bulk won out and he had Lanthan pinned underneath him. Lanthan could barely catch his breath for laughing, his cheek pressed to the sand with one arm trapped underneath him and the other held between them by Brevin. Glistening black skin stretched over the taut muscles as Lanthan struggled underneath his weight. Brevin breathed over the closely shorn hair on his friend’s neck.

Summer Fun

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/07/summer-fun/)
Thanks, Katrina!

Fun stuff, having Katrina here. She and I seem to share the same tastes in books. At least books about hot men doing other men. The excerpt for Off the Beaten Path certainly has me wanting to read more! Katrina and I have even both recently been into steampunk type stories. I wrote Sursein Judgment and Katrina's written Slight of Hand. I know both of us are looking to do more steampunk or -- as Ciar Cullen recently dubbed the softer side of steampunk -- "softsteam". Maybe sometime in the future the stars will align and we can be in an anthology or a series together.

Ah summer. Time of heat. Since I live in southern California and have all of my life, I'm well acquainted with the beast. I just realized that I don't have many stories that deal much with the season or time of year. Oh, I mention the passing of time in the Heaven Sent books, sure, but I've not dealt much with it. Revelations, though, does a little. Gretchen is on summer vacation, you see. The boys in the band are on a break and she decides she deserves one too. In her new house. She's even got a pool. Mmmm, yes, take a look at the cover for Revelations then think of Archer in the pool. That's in the book. It's actually great fun and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Guest Blogger - Katrina Strauss - Summer is hot, but volunteerism is hotter!

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/07/guest-blogger-katrina-strauss/)
Off the Beaten Path by Katrina StraussGood day from Katrina Strauss! No, don't adjust your monitors -- you're at the right place! Many thanks to Jet for inviting me to play at her blog today. There are some sizzling men to be found here at ComputErotika, so I thought I’d bring two hotties of my own! That’s Travis and Kyle to your left. They’re the stars of my next m/m release, Off the Beaten Path, coming this Tuesday, July 28th from Loose Id.

As you might guess from the cover, Off the Beaten Path centers on a camping trip. Well, okay, besides the double whammy of sexy man chest, it involves camping! To be more precise, Travis and Kyle are thrown together on what’s called a “volunteer vacation” at a wilderness state park. A volunteer vacation can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Here are some opportunities begging to be taken advantage of:

** Constructing an inner city playground from recycled goods.
** Building or maintaining pedestrian and bike trails on former railroad beds.
** Wilderness trail maintenance at state and national parks.
** Working for a day at a local soup kitchen or food bank.
** Mentoring at-risk youth enrolled in summer programs.
** Planting trees with the Nature Conservancy.
** Building houses with Habitat for Humanity.

And that’s just a few! As you can see from the above list, volunteer vacations can range from day trip to out-of-town adventure, urban outing to wilderness escape. When volunteering at state and national parks, participants can receive a discount on guest fees with meals, housing, and/or camping equipment provided. (Volunteers are also often granted access to parts of the park that are closed to the public!) If you’re a high school student planning for college, or a college student seeking an internship, a volunteer vacation can count toward service points. Best of all, a volunteer vacation can be enjoyed by friends, families, youth organizations, church groups, etc, with crew size numbering from a few to several members depending on the task at hand.

Or as Kyle’s friend Mac explains to Travis, a volunteer vacation is “a nice alternative to the usual Vegas trip or overpriced ocean cruise, plus you do something that helps others.” If you’re looking to enjoy an affordable vacation that’s a little different, and serving a worthwhile purpose while you’re at it, you may want to consider one of the volunteer variety! Simply Google “volunteer vacation” to learn more!

Back to Travis and Kyle, I’ll leave you with the blurb and a teaser from their own excursion off the beaten path:

Conference is over

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/07/conference-is-over/)
And I think it went well. I, personally, wasn't terribly productive but I'm pretty sure others were.

Jade Buchanan kicked ass as the Rainbow Romance Writer president. She met everyone -- or so it seemed to me -- and made sure she touched base with all the members she could. Looks like RRW weathered its first RWA pretty well. And Jade made lots of contacts for herself, of course, which is all good.

Ally Blue met the president (or equivalent) of the local Lamda chapter at a restaurant down the street from the hotel, so that was pretty cool.

I finally met Anne Cain. That was cool! I finally have a face to put with the excellent artwork. Talked to Treva Harte and a bunch of cool Loose Id authors at a delicious Lebanese restaurant. Met LB Gregg aka Lisabea and we had some good laughs. I met a lot of other great people and (if you're reading) I'm so sorry I don't remember all the names. I must admit to being a tad spacy during much of this weekend. Must be the bright purple hair *sage nod*

All in all, good fun even if I didn't do the networking I was supposed to. Ally and I discovered that DC -- at least the part we were in -- is crawling with gorgeous men! OMG, there were too many of them to properly process the hottness. Eye candy all over the place and, I've been assured by someone who lives here, probably most of them are gay *dies*

Not sure if I'll go to Nashville next year but who knows? I wasn't going to go to this one either. We'll have to see what happens between now and then.

EXCERPT - Heaven Sent: Revelations

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/07/excerpt-heaven-sent-revelations/)
Heaven Sent: RevelationsTo be released July 28, 2009 by Loose Id

Pairing: m/m/f

Available soon in ebook at Loose Id

A woman in Heaven Sent?! Well, yeah, she's been with them the entire time. Gretchen deserves her HEA!

BLURB:

For years, Gretchen’s main objective has been taking care of the boys of Heaven Sent. When her boys decide to take a year-long hiatus, she decides to do the same.

Before she can begin her summer off, Gretchen has one last public commitment. There, she meets tall, mysterious, and wickedly handsome Archer Thanos. Archer’s company has a video game based on Heaven Sent and he’s has been trying to get in touch with her to discuss it. Their first meeting quickly turns into a discussion of another type … in a nearby hotel room, sending Gretchen headlong into a whirlwind summer affair she hadn’t anticipated.

Only, someone isn’t exactly thrilled about Gretchen and Archer’s romance.  Gretchen’s adorable new assistant, Owen, has been pining for his boss since he started working for her but he hasn’t had the courage to assert himself and tell her he wants her. The result, Gretchen is completely blind to his feelings for her. To make matters worse, after meeting Archer, Owen knows he has no chance against the handsome devil. His own attraction to the older man is instant and overwhelming, the bisexual urges he hasn’t divulged to Gretchen fully awakening.

Owen thinks he’s not enough for Gretchen. Gretchen thinks Owen is far too young for her. Archer thinks they’re both ridiculous. He knows the three of them are just right for each other, if they can survive the miscommunications and trials ahead.

“Palm Springs?”

Owen stared at his monitor. “Yeah.”

Jane sighed and perched on the far edge of his desk. “And she just met him this last week?”

“Yeah.”

“Damn. What a life.”

“Yeah.”

“Oh God, would you stop mooning already?”

Scowling, he checked that the office door was closed. “Be a little louder, why don’t you?”

She reached up to smooth a hand over her short, straight black hair. “Oh, no one’s going to hear. Just about everyone’s gone home.”

He turned back to his monitor and tried to ignore her.

He’d known it wouldn’t work. She sat up further on his desk, leaning toward him. “Owen, you know you don’t have a chance with her, right?”

I guess since I mentioned Romance Divas not going to the conference, I should mention that I AM going  to the RWA conference in Washington DC from the 15th to the 18th.

I wasn't goint to go initially but then decided I wanted to be there for the Rainbow Romance Writers' first official conference. Plus a lot of my buddies are going to be there and it looks like it'll be the only event that I attend this year.

Heaven Sent: Revelationsand isn't is lovely?

That's Gretchen on the left, you've met her before. Owen, her new personal assistant, is in the middle. Isn't he adorable? And that would be Archer on the right. He's just as dark and luscious as he looks :D

I'm still working on an excerpt, but I've got a draft of a blurb:

For years, Gretchen’s main objective has been taking care of the boys of Heaven Sent. When her boys decide to take a year-long hiatus, she decides to do the same.

Now own a Kindle

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/06/now-own-a-kindle/)
I drank the Kool-aid and bought a Kindle DX.

I had not intended to spend quite that much on a reader, but in the end that's what I did and so far I like it. All of my PDFs from past ebook purchases went onto it in a flash and read quite nicely, thank you very much. I do need to get a clip on light, though, since our house tends to be on the dark side.

I've had it all of two days but in those two days I've read 2 1/2 books, so that's got to be something, yeah? It also dawned on me that getting research books might be pretty cool on this thing. Got myself the collected works of Jules Verne so I can get a better handle on steampunk.

And, hey, it's a tax write off!

Two at once

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/06/two-at-once/)
No, I'm not talking about menage this time. I'm talking about writing. I've got two stories live in my head at the moment and it's kind of weird.

I just finished the rough draft of Dark Elves VI: Awakening as well as the first round of edits on Heaven Sent: Revelations, so, naturally, I'm ready to start the next project. I don't stop, you know. I may not be writing as fast sometimes or I may be stuck and not writing at all, but the stories never really halt in my head.

Well, I was all set to start this story that is so far "the boss" story because I don't have a title for it yet. I started working on this one over a year ago when the first scene jumped out at me and I had to write it. I managed to write 20,000 words on it before I fizzled out. I think it was Unicorn that needed to be written, so I put this boss story aside. But now it fits perfectly with a submission call that Loose Id sent out so I'm trying to get that one done and in by the deadline. It's the story I planned to do.

So, imagine my chagrin when another story up and accosts me. I'm going to say it isn't my fault. Look at this picture by Heise.

whisper of a rose2 by *heise on deviantART

Is that not one of the most beautiful things you've ever seen? I'd seen it before because I purchased her artbook, but I was looking again the other day and a story for these guys just leaped out at me. I'd written close to 5K words before I'd really realized it.

So now I've got 2 stories going and I don't know who'll win out. Not sure I can get both of them done before I need to start working on the sequel to About Something, which I've agreed to do.

*sigh* so many stories!

EXCERPT - Sursein Judgment

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/03/excerpt-sursein-judgment/)
Sursein JudgmentTo be released March 2009 from Loose Id

Pairing: m/m

Buy it soon from Loose Id

The woman, by the way, is Shas's sister.

BLURB:

The innocent have nothing to fear from Surseine...

Rynn made a mistake in taking the drug hextasy with his fiancé. It was supposed to be the ultimate sexual high, except that you have to sleep with the one you desire most. If you don't, your body won't be satisfied and you'll die. Rynn lived, Lynnette didn't, and now her parents want someone to pay.
But either luck or Surseine, the god of justice Himself, takes pity on Rynn by putting his trial in front of one of His judges. Sursei are graced by the god they represent with the power to see truth and Sursei Shasertai finds Rynn innocent of murder.

But the drug is still out there and Shasertai and the people who travel with him are determined to root out the drug lord responsible for its existence. Shas invites Rynn to join them. He goes willingly, fascinated by the judge who gave him a second chance at life.

Shas is drawn to the naive farm boy at every point in their journey but he's promised Rynn not to force him into anything.

It is his soothing innocence that draws Shas to him, but the delectable judge makes Rynn feel things that aren't so innocent.

The man's eyes narrowed, and then he shook his head and backed down. "You're a cheat, Shas."

The judge tossed his head with a laugh. Instantly, the tension in the room dissipated. "Again, I assure you, that is quite impossible."

The bodyguard led the other man toward an open doorway at the far end of the room, and finally the judge turned to face Rynn and the sheriff.

Purple eyes. That one detail jumped out at Rynn as the judge stepped toward them. It wasn't the eerie total color with no whites or pupils that he'd seen earlier in court. The judge's eyes were now quite normal-looking except for the vivid amethyst that Rynn had never seen on anyone else. They were like perfectly round gemstones set in red-veined white marble. The strange color, though, seemed to go with the judge's light complexion. Did all sursei have purple eyes, or was this one special?

Birth of a Blog

(Original Blog Post: http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/03/birth-of-a-blog/)
Perhaps you know and perhaps you don't that I maintain my own website. OK, I don't do all the coding, I leave that to the WordPress team and the terrific people who make the freebie themes, but once it's installed, I'm the one who tweaks it for graphics and moves stuff around. I'm the one behind the scenes installing plugins and maintaining the links. I do a lot of that at Fiction with Friction too, as well as the League of Amazing Writers.

Recently, I added another blog to my webmistress list. And today I blogged there. Visit the MLR Press Authors blog to see.

New image - Wild Huntsman

(My Original Blog Post: -*http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/03/new-image-wild-huntsman/)

Wild Huntsman

Inspired by my good friend Willa Okati, who just started a Wild Hunt story and got my imagination going.

Perhaps a tad dark, and for that I'm sorry. But I think I'm going to try another image with this guy and will try and do better with the lighting. Note to self, think "moody" not "pitch black"

Am done! On to the next with new pics for inspiration

(My Original Blog Post: -*http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/02/am-done-on-to-the-next-with-new-pics-for-inspiration/)
I should point out a bit of news that pertains to me in particular. I'm done with Heaven Sent: Revelations! woohooo. Putting the polish on it and getting it beta read, but it should be in my editor's hands by the end of the week.

Next, I write Dark Elves VI: Awakening. Yes, I'm finally going to start it *is scared* But I made some pretty pictures so that'll help.

Eyrhaen Radin and Brevin

After DE6, I've signed a contract to write a m/m sequel to One For The Team called Team Player. Jason's thinking too much after Jen and Ken's wedding and Davey's bound and determined to keep him off kilter.

Congratulations, the Oscar goes to...

(My Original Blog Post: -*http://www.jetmykles.com/2009/02/congratulations-the-oscar-goes-to/)
Despite having once wanting to be a famous actress, I don't watch awards shows much. But, I do tend to watch the Oscars. Dunno, guess since it's "the big one" I'm still fascinated. I rather liked last night's show. Hugh Jackman was great and I personally think that was one of the best opening sequences ever. I also liked the change in having the 5 former winners announce the nominees for supporting actress, supporting actor, best actor and best actress. OK, maybe it was a bit too personal at moments, but I thought it was very nice and very tasteful. All in all, I was happy.

I was very happy that Milk got two such prestigious awards. Both Dustin Lance Black and Sean Penn's speeches were lovely and both emphasized the need for equality for everyone. Loved it.

This is a cool anthology with the common themes being m/m, theatre and cross dressing. Kimberly Gardner and JP Bowie are the other authors.

My story is going to be about Shawn, a talented but flighty college actor--one of my "cute young things"--and Roscoe, the gorgeous, gay professor/director who pushes him to his limits.

ANTHOLOGY BLURB:

Lights, Makeup, Scripts, Costumes . . . Performances! Jet Mykles, J.P. Bowie and Kimberly Gardner entertain us with the magic and mystique of the theatre. From Shakespeare's gender-bending comedies to the glamour of a Musical Revue, we're whisked backstage for an intimate glimpse of the drama, romance and rumors (and maybe even a little mystery) behind the curtain. Find out what it takes for a man to carry off a skirt and heels. Follow the men who wait in the wings for those behind the fake breasts and makeup. BRAVO! BRAVA!

This is a very cool anthology. Kimberly Gardner and JP Bowie are the other authors.

A little bit of cross dressing action. This excerpt isn't exactly sexy maybe, but I think it gives a nice idea of the dynamic between Shawn and Roscoe before the true romance starts.

BTW, Shawn is in COLLEGE so he's old enough to be in one of my stories.

BLURB:

Switch roles? Roscoe may be a brilliant director, but Sean wants no part of this crazy idea. But when Roscoe suggests that Sean and his leading lady swap Beatrice for Benedict in their college’s production of Much Ado About Nothing, everyone else thinks it’s a terrific idea. Trapped by peer pressure and the awareness that Roscoe usually knows what he’s doing, Sean accepts the challenge only to quickly discover that he likes wearing skirts, both on and off stage. Even more than that, he likes the director’s reaction when he flashes a little leg.

Bonnie held Shawn's upper arms, staring down into his eyes. "With no sauce that can be devised to it. I protest / I love thee."

Shawn clutched at her elbows, lowering his gaze and twisting his head to the side, facing the audience. "Why, then, God forgive me!"

Bonnie cupped Shawn's jaw with her palm, urging his face upward. "What offence, sweet Beatrice?"

"You have stayed me in a happy hour: I was about to / protest I loved you." Shawn let his voice go breathy just before raising his eyes to meet Bonnie's.

She put her arms around him, pulling him closer. "And do it with all thy heart."

He put his arms around her, smiling. "I love you with so much of my heart that none is / left to protest."

Bonnie leaned down, tilting her head for the kiss.

"Stop."

So the steampunk/fantasy story has been turned in. Not sure when it's going to be released but it's in Loose Id's hands now and off my back. It's called Surseine Judgment and I'll keep you posted.

Meantime, I'm going back to the rockers. No, not the Indigo Knights. Not yet. This one's still Heaven Sent. Gretchen Hobbes, their manager, is getting a story. Yes, I know, girls in yaoi? How could I? Well, I'm hoping my dear readers can forgive me this one. I thought Gretchen really needed a story. And, if it's any consolation, she gets two men. That help? In preparation for this story, I've been re-reading the HS books for the last week and making sure I've got my facts straight on them. I should be ready to get started this weekend. It's called Heaven Sent: Revelations. I guess it's technically book 6 but it feels like kind of an off-shoot. But, with this addition, maybe Genesis can go into print.

Some of you may have caught wind that I was going to start the next Dark Elves book after Judgment. Well... I was going to do that. But after a fantasy epic that kicked my ass and Dark Elves 5 that kicked my ass, I figured I needed a fantasy world break. Oh yeah, I had Unicorn and About Something in between there, but both of those were relatively short pieces. Dark Elves 6 promises to be longer and a tad complicated so I switched things around to give myself a break. If all goes as planned, the elves should be my next project after Revelations.

Let's see, what else do I have planned...? Devon Cream, About Something, and Pulling the Dragon's Tail should all come out in anthologies sometime this year. I plan to not sign up for any anthologies for at least the first half of this year in favor of doing books. I do plan on getting started on the Indigo Knights this year. I'm trying to put together the synopsis for Leashed 4 to send in any day now. I'm planning a sequel to One For The Team. I have an m/m Robin Hood idea that I'd really like to get started on and I just might go back to my "big book" sometime this year, if schedule permits.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Busy, busy! Thank you all for staying tuned!

BLURB

From early morning wake-ups to prepared dinners, Steven can’t help taking care of – and falling for – his young, inexperienced neighbor. When the tables are turned, can Steven trust that Devon truly knows what he wants?

*********************

Unedited excerpt ©2008 Jet Mykles, all rights reserved

Crash!

The spoon in Steven’s hand slipped from his fingers, clattering to the table and spattering alfredo sauce. “What the …?”

“Watch it.” Patty stood, hands out to steady the pot in his hands.

Setting the pot down, he dropped the potholder beside it and rushed to the front door toward the sound, trusting Patty to clean up the small mess behind him.

Opening the door, he nearly stumbled over a basketball that came rolling into his apartment. Instinctively picking it up, he stuck his head out into the hallway to see where it had come from. To his left, the staircase leading up to the four studio apartments on the floor above his was strewn with personal effects, including a photo album that had spilled dozens of loose photographs over the worn cement slats. At the bottom of the stairs, a man with short, dark hair, dressed in a blue t-shirt and knee-length cut-off shorts, knelt over what looked to be a shattered glass object, muttering as he carefully picked up pieces.

“Hey.” Steven stepped into the hall, tucking the basketball underneath his arm. “You need help with that?”

The man looked up, and Steven was stunned to behold the face of an angel. Okay, maybe not an angel, but a damned beautiful male specimen, just the same. The hair was deep chestnut, cut short around his ears, mostly straight and glossy but with a little bit of a curl at the ends. A stray curl of said hair brushed dark, heavy brows that shielded the biggest, most amazing brown eyes Steven had ever seen, ringed with ridiculously long black lashes. A scattering of faint freckles dotted a patrician nose with a tip that listed slightly to the left, both it and the cheekbones sloping down toward a generous, kissable mouth perched right atop a small brown poet’s beard. That mouth was currently dropped open in surprise. The eyes were almost as wide as the mouth, and two telltale tears tracked down smooth cheeks the color of dark butterscotch.

Caught looking, Steven couldn’t help but take another step forward.

His movement seemed to break the immobility of the younger man. Quickly, he shook his head. “Uh, no. Uh, thanks.” He turned to look down at the glass at his feet, quickly swiping a sleeve over his cheek. “No, I, uh … I’m fine. I just …” He gestured at the glass. “Broke … something.”

Glancing down, Steven saw the remains of what might once have been a very pretty glass sculpture. He caught the elegant curve of a horse’s neck and a larger hunk of perhaps a carriage. “I’m sorry.”

The young man shrugged. Although the hair hid his face, Steven heard a small sniff. “My fault. I didn’t pack it right.” He shrugged again.

Steven put two and two together. “Are you the new tenant?”

The chestnut hair swayed in a nod.

“Well, hey, welcome to the building. Can I help you with some boxes or something?”

“Oh, no, that’s … nice of you, but no. I’ll have it done in …” A panicked look at the spilled personal effects around him, then another shrug. “I’ll get it done.”

“No worries.” Steven stepped past him and righted the box that lay over a few of the bottom stairs. “Let’s just get this stuff back in here. I’ve got a dust pan we can use to clean up the glass.” He kept his tone brisk, guessing that the glass figure had meant something special to the young man and not wanting to make him uncomfortable by noticing. Carefully, he picked up the picture album, trying not to spill any more loose photographs.

“You don’t have to …”

“Ahem.”

Steven stopped, a photo in his hand of the young man with a comely young woman, and looked over his shoulder to face Patty, who stood in his doorway, arms crossed over her considerable bosom. “Oh, hey!” He ignored her pointed look and dropped the album and photo into the box. “Patty, you go ahead and eat. I’m going to help out …” He looked down at the man kneeling beside him. “What’s your name?”

The man looked at Patty, no doubt noticing her impatient look. “What? Oh, Devon. Uh, hey, you don’t have to –”

“Devon.” Gorgeous name. Suited him. Too bad many of the pictures Steven spied spilling from the album were of him with girls. Which meant he was almost definitely straight. Too bad. Steven smiled up at Patty. “I’m going to help Devon here move the last of his stuff up to his place. He’s our new neighbor.”

Predictably, she wasn’t impressed, although some of the pique melted from her face as she finally got a good, hard look at Devon. Patty was even more susceptible to the helpless puppy look than he was, and this kid had the look down pat with the mannerisms to match. “Don’t be silly. I’ll put it back on the stove and cover it. Then I’ll come out and help you.”

“Wait!” Devon climbed to his feet, hand out toward her, but she’d already turned back inside. He couldn’t know that mere words wouldn’t stop Patty.

Because Devon was looking the other way, Steven took a look at him standing tall. “Tall” being the operative word. Steven was a respectable five foot ten, but the boy overshot him by at least half a foot, putting Steven eye-level with the gently curved jaw and the soft scruff of beard at the tip of Devon’s chin. Resisting the urge to reach out and test the strength in the broad shoulders within that worn t-shirt, Steven turned and knelt to continue picking stuff off the stairs.

“Hey, wait.”

A hand on his arm made him pause, although he didn’t look up. Not good to ogle the new guy too much.

“You don’t have to do this. You were just about to eat, and your wife’s waiting for you.”

Steven had to grin. “No worries. She’s not my wife, and it’ll wait.” He dumped a few more things into the box. “Besides –” He picked up the box and finally looked back at Devon. “– this way you can join us. You eaten yet?”

Indecisiveness twisted that gorgeous mouth to the side. “Well, no …”

“I thought not. Let’s get your stuff upstairs, and I’ll welcome you to the building by feeding you. You’ve got to be hungry.”

“No. That’s nice of you but …” Despite Devon’s protests, his belly took that moment to growl its own opinion.

Steven smiled. Bracing the box underneath one arm, he reached out and finally took a squeeze of one of those arms. Very nice. Strong and firm, with good tone. “No protesting, my man. We’re neighbors now. You’ve got to give Patty and me a chance to get to know you.”

Maybe his smile did it. Steven didn’t know, but whatever he did, Devon finally smiled. Sweet Jesus, the boy had a gorgeous smile. Steven had to send urgent messages to his crotch to keep it from filling at the mere sight.

Devon nodded. “Okay. Thanks.”

Steven held out his hand for a shake. “Steven Connolly.”

Devon took it and gave it a good shake. “Devon Pavenic.”

Scott took a deep, steadying breath and walked into the bar. It was really very, well, ordinary. He'd expected a dark smoky den of iniquity and was quite taken aback to find a nice but very normal looking bar. The moderate crowd that filled the tables and booths didn't look like denizens of the underworld or like shadowy creatures of the night. He'd expected a much more seedy bar for some reason. Allowing himself another breath, he stepped into the dimmed light.

Yaoicon report

Sorry guys, it's taken me a few days to get my life/mind back together. As you may know, I attended Yaoicon in San Francisco last week. Had a good time.

Forgot my camera so I thank my good friends Jade, James and Luisa for allowing me to post a few pics of theirs on my site: http://ping.fm/XDyl3

The very best single thing that happened all week happened in the first few minutes of Saturday after we'd opened the booth. Imagine my surprise to look up and see someone standing there dressed as one of MY characters!! It was too damn cool!

I met a lot of wonderful people. Thank you to those who came by to say hi, with an additional thank you to those who bought my books :D Much appreciated.

Loved seeing my author buddies again. It was a whirlwind week, though, so I didn't get to spend much time with them outside of the vendor room. But that's okay. We'll get together again soon.

OH! If you go look at the pictures, do pause to appreciate Tall, Dark and Yummy. He was SO very hot! (continue reading &aquo;)
